style="max-width: 600px; height: auto;"/>

A talk through the walkthrough of the importance of design in open source and broader inclusivity. We will start off with a basic introduction to the problem, which is the unawareness surrounding open source and how any and everything has a place in the community. Then we move on to the more commonly faced problem, about making place for the folks who are on either outlying side of the normal distribution in a community.

To give a call to action to this, Muneer will talk about how design in placed/needed in these communities, his personal experience and an overall view of how things were for him and what better does he expect us to do for the people coming after us.

The primary target is our University’s Design department folks, from whom we want some or even many to understand that their skills are much needed and there are multiple career pathways ahead if they decide to step into the world of open source. (We’re also hoping to get some to join our team, yes we are, like many other communities, much in need of designers)

View Event Details →

You arrive with a laptop and leave with a working project in a public repository.

This is an official Hacktoberfest 2026 Hack Day — the in-person edition of the global open-source celebration run by Major League Hacking and DEV with DigitalOcean. A few hundred exist worldwide. This is the first at IIT Bhilai, and it is open to students across Chhattisgarh.

The day: a morning workshop that takes you from nothing to a running agent, then a full afternoon of building with mentors on the floor, then demos and judging.

What you build with: open-weight models and open-source harnesses. MLH has assigned this event the Google Gemma challenge, alongside categories for agent skills, model harnesses and open-weight LLMs.

No experience required. The workshop starts from zero. If you have never built with AI, this is the easiest door you will find.

Every project is built on the day, published under an open-source licence, and judged in the open.
