Ricing Isn’t a Flex. It’s Freedom.

Session Description

I started my Linux journey around three years ago with Xubuntu, moved to Arch Linux with XFCE, then switched to i3 — and never looked back. Now I use NixOS with i3 and customize every part of my setup. What began as a hobby to make my desktop look cool turned into a deeper learning experience in workflow design, system control, and FOSS appreciation.

In this talk, I’ll share why ricing is not just about eye candy. It’s about building a space that fits how you think and work. I’ll walk through the tools I use (i3, polybar, picom, rofi, kitty, and ranger), how they all fit together, and what I’ve learned along the way — from scripting and dotfiles to minimalism and modularity.

To keep things practical, I’ll also include a short live demo showing how to set up a clean, usable rice without spending hours on docs.

Whether you're new to Linux or already deep into the rabbit hole, this talk is about taking control of your digital space with Free and Open Source Software.

I'm someone who enjoys taking full control of my system. I started with Xubuntu, moved to Arch with i3, and eventually landed on NixOS which I use daily with a minimal rice. Over time, ricing became more than just looks for me; it’s a way to build workflows that actually fit how I work. I'm here to share what I’ve learned and hopefully help others discover the joy of building their own spaces with FOSS.
other than that i use FOSS tools to create games and sometimes try to contribute to FOSS.
