Adoption of FOSS by Indian Courts

Allahabad High Court shifted to Linux and first to OpenOffice then to LibreOffice in early 2004. the beginning of this century. This inspired e-Committee to adopt Linux. My talk in substance is the reason for shifting to Open source, difficulties faced by the Court and it inspired the e-committee to adopt the same.

Yatindra Singh

Justice Singh was born on 9th October 1952 and passed High School & Intermediate in 1st Division. He graduated in Science with distinction, securing 6th position in merit from the University of Allahabad in 1970. He was awarded Merit as well as National scholarships. After taking law degree, he joined the bar in 1973.

Justice Singh served as Additional Advocate General for the State of UP from 1997 to 1999. Among other important cases, he was the main counsel at the Allahabad High Court in the case, where Kalyan Singh was reinstated as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, after his removal by the then Governor Romesh Bhandari (see https://kvtrust.blogspot.com/2015/08/kalyan-singh-reinstated.html).

Justice Singh was appointed as a permanent judge of the Allahabad High Court on February 05, 1999. He joined the Chhattisgarh High Court as the Chief Justice on 22nd October, 2012 and retired on 8th October, 2014. During this time, he revamped and modernised the computerisation at the Allahabad and the Chhattisgarh High Courts.

After retirement, he was designated senior Advocate and is practising in the Supreme Court.

Speaker is an eminent legal personality (please checkout his detailed bio). He has worked for adoption of FOSS by Indian Courts. He will be presenting his work and experiences related to adoption of FOSS and open (document) formats. We feel this historical perspective, and his presence, will greatly add to the conference.. This has been discussed and approved as an invited talk.
