Approved
Session Description

"Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness." is a famous quote by Alejandro Jodorowsky. The session takes a moment to evaluate the learning spaces and the software we use for academic, social, and administrative aspects and see if they are teaching the user freedom or not. The COVID-19 period saw exponential growth in IT-enabled education. While the shift in educational standards is welcome having software that enables the participants to have a voice and thereby freedom in these platforms is also necessary. The session hopes to initiate a discussion that will result in increasing adoption of libre software especially in the learning spaces so that they have the chance to use it for their lifetime. The session also plans to share the collective experience when it comes to relying on Libre Software both challenges as well as their solutions.

In short the session plans to demonstrate how setting up community managed institute administrative suits, Mediawiki and other knowledge repositories, discourse, mastodon, lemmy and / or activitypub based social media platforms and various other tools help build a community of that prioritise Freedom when it comes to using Software.
