Introducing YDB, a Distributed SQL DBMS for mission-critical workloads

Approved
Session Description

YDB is a versatile open-source Distributed SQL Database that combines high availability and scalability with strong consistency and ACID transactions. It accommodates transactional (OLTP), analytical (OLAP), and streaming workloads simultaneously. It is publicly available under Apache 2.0, one of the most permissive open-source licenses. In this talk, I'll introduce the system and explain how it can be used to build reliable data-driven applications that implement business-critical processes.

Talking points:

  • Technology overview: key properties, major features, etc.
  • Use cases: industries and specific real-world scenarios.
  • Brief project historical context.
  • Architecture: diagram with key components and their interactions, talk through design decisions.
  • Deployment options: bare-metal vs VMs vs Kubernetes.
  • Ecosystem and integrations; PostgreSQL and Kafka compatibility modes.
  • Call for contributors: what projects are available to contribute, in which programming languages, GitHub links https://github.com/ydb-platform
