Fighting authoritarianism with FOSS

Approved
Session Description

World over, there's a growing trend of authoritarianism, and techno-authoritarianism is at the centre of it, with various Governments trying to ensure that the means of information are in their control, to ensure that they have complete control of the narrative. The tech monopolies like Google, Facebook etc are playing in the hands of various Governments. There is an urgent need to work on issues of misinformation, disinformation, hate speech, privacy and censorship. It is now time to create new solutions and extend the ones that are already available, especially ones that are decentralised, to create robust alternatives to the ones that various tech monopolies are creating. In this talk, I wish to bring my past 7 years of journalism experience, and 20 years of experience as a software engineer, and 7 years of experience building an organisation to propose a strategy going forward.
