Description

Get ready to catch 'em all at "Who's That Pokémon?" - the Open Source Developers' Community (OSDC) orientation event where you'll take your first steps into the world of version control, collaboration, and open-source contribution.

Whether you're a seasoned coder or just starting your journey, this is your chance to level up your skills, connect with fellow trainers (we mean developers), and make your very first commit on GitHub.

What You'll Learn
  • Git fundamentals: What version control is, why it matters, and how Git works under the hood.

  • GitHub basics: Creating repositories, understanding branches, commits, and the GitHub workflow.

  • Your first commit: Hands-on practice with git init, git add, git commit, and pushing to GitHub.

  • Collaboration essentials: How to contribute to projects, work in teams, and navigate the open-source ecosystem.

The Main Event: Who's That Pokémon?

This isn't just a workshop - it's an interactive challenge! During the event, you'll make your very first push and commit to your own GitHub repository...but here's the twist: the content is a surprise.

Think of it as your starter Pokémon moment - you won't know what you're getting until you catch it. Will it be a Charmander? A Squirtle? Or something entirely unexpected? You'll have to commit to find out.

This hands-on activity ensures that everyone walks away with:

  • A live GitHub repository they created themselves.

  • Their first successful commit and push.

  • A memorable, fun introduction to Git and GitHub.

What You'll Walk Away With
  • A working GitHub account with your first repository and commit.

  • A foundational understanding of Git commands and workflows.

  • New connections with fellow developers and OSDC members.

  • A surprise in your repo that'll make you smile.

Why Attend

Git and GitHub are essential tools for modern software development, open-source contribution, and collaborative work. Whether you're aiming for internships, contributing to open-source projects, or building your own portfolio, mastering these tools is your first step.

Plus, this event is designed to be fun, interactive, and beginner-friendly—no intimidating jargon, just hands-on learning and a supportive community.

Meet OSDC

The Open Source Developers' Community (OSDC) is a student-led initiative at JIIT focused on promoting open-source culture, collaborative learning, and real-world project experience. We organize workshops, hackathons, talks, and events that help students explore open technologies and grow their skills.

Whether you're into code, design, documentation, or community building, there's a place for you in OSDC.

Support and Mentorship

Throughout the event, experienced OSDC members and mentors will be available to help with setup, troubleshooting, and answering your questions. No one gets left behind-we're here to make sure everyone succeeds.

What to Expect After the Event

Once you've made your first commit, you're officially part of the open-source world. We'll share resources, project ideas, and opportunities to keep contributing, whether through OSDC activities, Hacktoberfest, or other community events.

Code of Conduct

Be kind, inclusive, and collaborative. Ask questions freely, help your neighbours, and keep the space welcoming for all skill levels.

Prepare for trouble...and make it double. 🕵️
Bring your laptop, bring your curiosity, and let's catch 'em all - one commit at a time.
