Many of us have been participating in (not so) large OMEMO encrypted group chats on XMPP, which tend to be plagued with encryption issues. This usually happens when a user is inactive or their server is down and their OMEMO keys are not available. However, we have seen other weird bugs as well, such as Monocles Chat not being able to accept presence subscription requests from Gajim users.

Since there are going to be many XMPP users at PravConf, this would be a good time to sit down and systematically document these encryption issues—when they arrive, and steps to replicate them. Being able to replicate is crucial as it will help us file bug reports and slowly get the issues ironed out.

We have a priority feature to implement automatic trust management and cross-signing, but this will be a complimentary effort to address client-specific quirks.

For this session, we can create several test accounts in specific configurations and see how they interact, documenting each behaviour we observe. Hopefully we will encounter some encryption issues!
