FOSS Forge 2025 is a two-day flagship event of UFC, aimed at promoting open-source development and contributions. The competition is structured in three sub-competitions spread across two consecutive days.
Day 1 : Event 1 - Repo Sprint: A development sprint where teams contribute to curated UFC GitHub repositories. Teams must pick issues of varying complexity and submit PRs. Add features/ do a remake/ improve UI/UX, etc. This would take up 2-3 hours.
Day 1: Event 2 - Pokémon YAML Showdown: A visual, game-style event where participants compete in Pokémon battles using YAML configuration files. Teams push their YAML files to GitHub. This would take up about an hour. The system automatically simulates battles between teams in a web-based Pokémon-style arena. Fun and participants learn “How to Open-Source” .
Day 2 - Git Clash: The teams face an intense, large-scale GitHub challenge. Teams are given a pool of curated repositories with issues ranging from easy to complex. The goal: solve as many as possible within the time limit of about 3-4 hours, submitting valid PRs with clean commits. Live leaderboard tracks the number and quality of accepted PRs.
