Nextdocs
An open-source block-based document editor for structured and collaborative writing.
NextDocs — A Sovereign Block-Based Document Platform
NextDocs is a modern, block-based document editor powered by BlockNote. The platform is designed for seamless document editing and collaboration while ensuring users retain full ownership and control over their data.
Document platforms like Notion today depend on centralized vendors. This leads to vendor lock-in, limited data portability, and reduced control over how data is stored and managed. Users are often dependent on services they do not control, making digital sovereignty difficult to achieve.
NextDocs is built to remove these constraints. It is fully self-hostable, allowing anyone to deploy and run it on their own infrastructure. The system does not rely on mandatory proprietary services and is built using open technologies, making it transparent, extensible, and easy to adapt.
Core Features
Block-based editing experience
Support for private and shared documents
Real-time collaboration
Self-hostable architecture
More features like Jitsi video call integration while collaborating, configuring workspace and permissions for teams, are coming up in future.
Why It Matters
For organizations, NextDocs provides a reliable way to maintain control over sensitive information. It supports internal collaboration without exposing data to external platforms, helping teams meet security, compliance, and operational requirements. By enabling self-hosting, organizations can tailor the system to their needs, integrate it with existing infrastructure, and ensure long-term flexibility and independence.
Demo Link
I haven't added the demo link because the initial alpha testing release is planned to be before 14th of April. The github repo README will include the alpha release hosted link if deployed when evaluating; otherwise, check the setup instructions for running locally.
Check out Project's README for more! It would include the screen captures of various features.
