Description

EcoCycle - Expired Product Recycling Platform

Every day, millions of expired products, including food, medicine, cosmetics, batteries, and electronics, are carelessly discarded in regular waste bins. Most people wish to recycle responsibly but are unaware of how to do so. As a result, they contribute to environmental disasters. EcoCycle is an open-source web platform that helps to address this problem by turning the recycling of expired products into a simple and guided process. Users can visit the EcoCycle website, enter the name of the expired product, and instantly receive information on the recycling process. They can also get information on the recycling centers near their location, thus encouraging them to recycle. EcoCycle currently has 14 categories of products. Every recycling process is tracked in real-time, and users can view the number of products recycled, kilograms of waste recycled, and CO2 saved. This encourages users to recycle more. EcoCycle is built with ReactJS, Python Flask, and SQLite. EcoCycle is completely open-source and community-driven. EcoCycle was built in 24 hours for the FOSS Hackathon 2026 to prove that open-source technology can change the world.
